The extreme finesse of the tannins reminds us that Hermitage remains… Hermitage !
The vintage

Northern Rhone Valley is the localisation which succeeded best in 2013. Syrah wines are colored, juicy, with a bright fruit that harmoniously marries with hints of liquorice, black currant liqueur...
Some cuvées offer a remarkable concentration, especially in the grands terroirs, where the old vine was able to fully play its role of regulation. These cuvées have the dimension of a great vintage… the yields, very low, are one of the major keys to this success.

Tasting

In the mouth, the Wine is creamy, velvety, and spicy, with hints of grey pepper and liquorice. The aromatic complexity is there, indeed. Yet, it will reveal more and more of its amazing potential in the course of the years.

Dark purplish crimson. Really exciting nose with so much depth. Meat and savour and spice underneath top notes of pepper and dried herbs. Great rigour and very fine tannin management. Lots of drive and energy. I should imagine this is more open than most 2013 Hermitages but it is also very ambitious. Glossy confidence here.

Another serious 2013 from Michel, the 2013 Hermitage boasts terrific notes of crushed rocks, smoked meats, licorice and assorted blackberry and cassis-like fruit. It has medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful purity and vibrant acidity. It should benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and have 15 years or more of longevity.

Réussite magistrale du complexe millésime 2013.

Guide Bettane et Desseauve des vins de France 2016 , 17/20 , 2015-08-20

This has a caressing, almost lush feel, with dark plum, cassis and bitter cherry compote notes inlaid with hints of warm ganache, dried anise and black tea. Shows a lovely tug of tar at the very end.

Inky ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed blackberry, cherry liqueur and boysenberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of licorice and candied violet, and a subtle olive nuance emerges with air. Shows excellent depth as well as energy on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry and dark berry preserve flavors and a suggestion of spicecake. Supple, emphatically floral and seamless in texture, closing with powerful thrust and smooth, harmonious tannins.
