The vintage

A Vintage shaped for Grenache, in the first place. Intense, engaging, deep colors… Bright fruit, striking structures, with a singular quality of the tannin... And the more unreal, as this is the most unlikely feature in this table, the pH… pH which is astonishingly low...
All in all, 2016 solves the problem of squaring the circle in the world of wine ! Wines which are “easy”, absolutely delicious to drink young, fresh, yet with a structure, a fleshiness, a balance, which promise them an unprecedented destiny…

Moving to the reds, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers terrific finesse and elegant as well as medium full-bodied richness, lots of darker berry fruits, spice, garrigue and toasted bread aromatics, and a forward, charming, front-end loaded style.

Jeb Dunnuck , 90-92/100 , 2017-10-19

Bright crimson. Really rich, vibrant and accessible on the nose (more so than, for instance, their Gigondas). Very charming with rounded tannins and an undertow of bloodiness. The Syrah gives this a bit of immediacy and freshness, presumably. Really interesting, though not one of the most concentrated 2016s from this stable.

Jancis Robinson , 17/20 , 2017-12-01

Vivid ruby. Bright, mineral-accented raspberry and lavender pastille scents show very good clarity and pick up a pungent garrigue accent with air. Offers sappy, penetrating red fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors and a spicy jolt of white pepper. The mineral note comes back on a persistent, subtly sweet, red-berry-dominated finish framed by smooth, fine-grained tannins.

A blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, the sample of the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape seemed slightly off, with bruised-fruit aromas that distracted from the ripe black cherry fruit and savory black olive notes. It's full-bodied and sturdy, with what could be an interesting future.

A ripe, spicy and slightly earthy Châteauneuf with strong and composed oak influence. The palate has ripe-fruit flavors in the red-plum zone, cradled in taut, glossy tannins. Drink in 2020

James Suckling , 92/100 , 2018-08-29

La trilogie de Châteauneuf est d'un superbe niveau.

La Revue du Vin de France , 16/20

Intense and juicy in feel, with a beam of dark currant, plum and raspberry reduction notes streaming through, carried by a graphite underpinning and ending with flashes of anise and fruitcake. This has good drive and should cellar well. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.
