The juice of the very old vines has been incorporated into the “Coteaux” Cuvée. There was not enough for a Cuvée ”V.V.”.
The vintage

Northern Rhone Valley is the localisation which succeeded best in 2013. Syrah wines are colored, juicy, with a bright fruit that harmoniously marries with hints of liquorice, black currant liqueur...
Some cuvées offer a remarkable concentration, especially in the grands terroirs, where the old vine was able to fully play its role of regulation. These cuvées have the dimension of a great vintage… the yields, very low, are one of the major keys to this success.

Syrah

Very dark purplish crimson. Phew, what a scorcher! Intensely expressive of the tar/burnt rubber spectrum of Syrah notes. As though burnt or scorched but with lots of ripe fruit too. It seems hugely embryonic at the moment, even though the ripeness could deceive drinkers into drinking it young. But there is clearly massive structure too. A hugely ambitious wine with some gamey quality.

White pepper, dried bay leaf and savory notes lead the way, blossoming through the core of bitter cherry and damson plum fruit, fanning out on the finish.

Bright violet. Explosive black and blue fruit preserve scents are complicated by suggestions of incense, olive paste and smoky minerals. Pliant and sweet in the mouth, offering intense cherry liqueur and blueberry flavors brightened and lifted by juicy acidity and a peppery element. Shows a vibrant mineral quality on the penetrating finish, which features fine-grained tannins and hints of smoke and candied violet. Quite elegant for a Cornas, and balanced to age.
